SACRAMENTO CAPITALS RALLY TO BENEFIT CHILDREN’S CHARITIES;

FORMER CAPS GREAT BRIAN “THE HAMMER” MACPHIE HEADLINES

(GOLD RIVER, CALIF. – JUNE 22, 2009) The Sacramento Capitals are hosting the inaugural Capitals Charity Challenge as a kickoff to the regular season.  This World TeamTennis structured-event will take place on Wednesday July, 1 at Allstate Stadium, Westfield Galleria at Roseville, CA.  Gates will open at 6pm, with the first match at 7:30pm. Half of the proceeds from ticket sales and raffle will benefit The Keaton Raphael Memorial and The Brayden Durant Children’s Foundation.

Headlining will be Caps fan favorite, former three-time WTT Most Valuable Male Player Brian MacPhie, and former World TeamTennis star and current Newport Beach Breakers Coach Trevor Kroneman. Additional players will be named in the very near future.

Lonnie Nielson, Caps owner, and Ramey Osborne, former owner of the Caps, will share coaching duties. Nielson said, “This is a great way to kick off our season.  We are going to have a blast while raising money for childhood cancer.”

The Keaton Raphael Memorial seeks to provide a helping hand to families and children battling cancer.  The roots of the foundation begin with Keaton Raphael.  In 1997, 5-year-old Keaton was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma.  Robyn Raphael, Keaton’s mother and founder of the memorial, has remained committed to helping childhood cancer patients and families. www.childcancer.org

The driving force behind The Brayden Durant Children’s Foundation is to provide for the betterment of the lives of children affected by serious disease, illness, or injury.  Steve and Laurie Durant started the foundation after the passing of their 5-year-old son, Brayden, in 2004 to Leukemia.  Steve and Laurie continue to carry forth “Hope & Dreams” for the future for these children in memory of their son.   www.braydendurantcf.org

The Sacramento Capitals are the most successful World TeamTennis franchise on and off the court with six team championships. They have also contributing over one million dollars to local charities and organizations.

The Caps have featured players Andre Agassi and Lindsay Davenport, and this year, will spotlight Michael Chang as the marquee player.
